Students enrolling into this course must:
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Complete an Upfront Assessment of Need (UAN)
- Complete a literacy, numeracy and digital literacy assessment
- Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible visa holder for funded positions
- Have access to a computer or laptop with reliable internet access
- Be able to participate in online virtual classroom sessions via Zoom
- Possess sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete course requirements
Students are required to have completed the following prerequisite units:
- CPCCBC4001 Apply building codes and standards to the construction process for Class 1 and 10 buildings
- CPCCBC4053 Apply building codes and standards to the construction process for Class 2 to 9 Type C buildings
- CPCCBC5001 Apply building codes and standards to the construction process for Type B construction
Additional eligibility requirements may apply for government funded positions.

There is no mandatory work placement requirement for this qualification.
However, students currently working within the building and construction industry may benefit from applying practical workplace experience throughout their studies.
Many assessment activities are based on realistic workplace scenarios and industry practices.
While workplace placement is not required, students may benefit from access to a building and construction environment to support practical understanding of course concepts and industry practices.
Students are also expected to have access to:
- Computer or laptop with minimum 8GB RAM (16GB recommended)
- Reliable internet connection
- Webcam and microphone
- Microsoft Office or equivalent software
- Modern web browser
- General stationery and study materials
- Suitable quiet study environment
This course is delivered through online real-time virtual classroom sessions using Zoom, combined with self-paced learning activities and trainer support.

- Written assessments

- Practical construction-based tasks
Students should also expect to undertake:
- Up to 7 hours per week of independent study
- Up to 7 hours per week of assignment preparation
- Research and revision activities
- Assessment preparation and evidence collection
